Havoc Shield is the cybersecurity operating system for growing startups. We take the ocean of complexity that is technology, compliance, policy, configuration, and coordination and we bake it into a step by step plan that non-security types can execute on. We help small teams roll out vendors, configure tech, train their staff, and much more through one platform, enabling them to protect their existing customers and win new ones through a professional cybersecurity program.
We're looking for a well-rounded Senior Product Designer to join our team. We help small businesses avoid the financial and reputational impacts of cyber attacks - an all too often business-ending threat. This person will be responsible for starting off our design team, partnering directly with our founding team, engineers, and others on a variety of design projects from ideation to final delivery.
The ideal candidate has a deep knowledge of design trends, layouts, typography, and best-practices, and is passionate about making software that translates complex, hard-to-understand topics into plain language. They'll also be excited to implement their work alongside software engineers and the marketing team.
We see this person being the first among a larger than traditional design group given the importance of pedagogy through experience in our business. You’ll work closely with and report to our VP of Product. We'd like you to be excited and prepare to be the one to start, but also the one to lead as the team grows.
You’re a skilled designer who is continually growing. You have at least three years experience designing and building consumer facing software experiences and have shipped design for SaaS products. You strive to make the dry and arcane enjoyable and rewarding for users. You have a background in graphic design in addition to a strong understanding of user-centered design with an eye for simplifying complex topics and workflows. You are able to quickly understand all the touch points that go into delivering value to customers, and want to contribute significantly to its evolution.
You enjoy collaborating with team members to ideate and iterate in order to reach top-tier solutions for users. You craft high quality experiences using the typical tools of the trade (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Zeplin, CS Suite, etc.) and aren't afraid to challenge "the way it's been done". You build simplifying, clear user flows, organize complex information and processes, and pair that with detailed annotations. You create and use design systems for consistency and prioritize measured improvement over perfection. You’re excited to work with a small team of engineers to ship pixel perfect experiences, prototype and related assets and enjoy improving your work as it meets real users.
You leverage research and build opinion through perspective. You enjoy talking to customers and learning from team members. You're comfortable participating in research to clarify or validate assumptions, and building small experiments to validate your approach. You communicate what you learn with your team to uplift everyone's knowledge. You know how to measure the outcomes of your work, understand its downstream effects, and propose future evolutions.
You're an excellent written communicator. We're a fully remote team and writing is our primary method of communication. You'll use written (often asynchronous) cadences to communicate thinking, rationale, findings, and next steps across the team. You know how to organize your thoughts, be concise, and tell a compelling story.
You are self-directed and process driven. We don't pack your calendar with status update meetings; you own your time. We measure outcomes and team effort. You will develop and champion processes and best practices as our design team grows and matures, communicating the "why" alongside them.
A fully-remote team, with a Hub in Chicago
A generous stipend for home office equipment
An outcome-based working policy. Your calendar is yours. We have cadences that allow you to map your week's goals out and then allow you large swaths of uninterrupted time to do that work. No meeting after meeting days. Take care of your kids, take an hour to clean, etc. We hold each other accountable by the work we set ourselves to do as a team, and create sensible scopes to meet our appetite of time spent on a project.
Flexible PTO and all major Holidays
Insurance with healthy contributions - Medical, Dental, Vision, etc.
Above market equity compensation with an exercise period matching your tenure even if you leave
Pay commensurate with the startup market, and transparent goals and salary targets to increase as the company meets its goals.
How To Apply
We have a non-standard application process. To speed the process and provide signal upfront, we ask a few questions you'd normally be asked at the start of an interview. After you apply, you WILL hear back from us, even if we don't seem like a good fit. We strive to make sure you don't go more than seven days without hearing from us.
